Job Title: Shipping Supervisor

Dept: Shipping

Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Manager of Support Services

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Shipping Supervisor reports to the Manager of Support Services and oversees all aspects of M.A.Ford’s shipping and receiving operations while meeting performance standards and delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Work in conjunction with the Manager of Support Services to Identify, develop and implement shipping policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
  1. Plans, organizes, and supervises the shipping and receiving function of the department ensuring timely and efficient delivery to ensure customer satisfaction.
  1. Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  1. Coordinates with Customer service, Plant Manager, Quality, and other personnel in order to attain delivery, cost, and quality of service objectives.
  1. Bring tools to inventory, inventory control of finished product, closing work orders, run reports for shippable items.
  1. Supervise and lead shipping staff, including hiring, training, and performance feedback.
  1. Studies shipping needs, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
  1. Fosters positive working relationships. Responds proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints and other employee relations matters.
  1. Assist other workers in shipping and receiving activities.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Participating in committees/other interests outside of assigned cell/department.
  1. Obtaining training necessary to perform job to the best of their ability.
  1. Maintain departmental supplies, tools, equipment, and order as necessary.
  1. Ensure safety rules and procedures are established and enforced on a continual basis for employees to comply with company and governmental regulations.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  1. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, coaching and counseling employees.
  1. Supervises personnel in department.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelors degree in logistics, supply chain management or a related field, or commensurate experience.
  1. 5+ years shipping and receiving experience
  1. Proven experience in shipping and logistics management, preferably in a supervisory role.
  1. Experience using shipping software. (UPS/FEDEX)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  1. Strong reading, writing, research, communication and interpersonal skills.
  1. Proficiency working in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and shipping software

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  1. Above average math skills including ability to calculate percentages and discount formulas, convert to metric, and fractions to decimal equivalents.

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. The person must display excellent problem-solving capability, and the aptitude to make appropriate business decisions in an efficient and timely manner.
  1. Must be capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Skill in utilizing corporate computer systems and software programs, including proficient use of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required.
  1. Must have excellent attendance record and be punctual.
  1. Must be a team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  1. Must be a quick-learner and have the ability to retain critical information.
