Job Title: MTA Manufacturing Engineer

Dept: Engineering

Status: Exempt

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: The MTA Manufacturing Engineer, under the direction of the Plant Manager, guides, implements and assists the production team responsible for the manufacturing and processes required to manufacture high performance MA Ford and/or Mitsubishi solid carbide cutting tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provides training, guidance & implements process improvements for Production Team members so manufacturing can meet production goals set by the Senior Management Team
  1. Becomes familiar with and is able to simulate tools across all CNC platforms.
  1. Investigates / analyzes manufacturing problems / bottlenecks, and recommends alternatives and ultimately long-term solutions.
  1. Continually evaluates current manufacturing & process activities and makes recommendations for improvement.
  1. Leads collaborative discussions with the Senior Mgmt. Team to determine automation capabilities and goals. Creates a detailed map to guide automation projects from concept to implementation.
  1. In collaboration with a production team, determines the equipment required with supportive cost justification & feasibility studies, while working with OEM vendors.
  1. Supervises installation & initial start-up of production equipment.
  1. Develops and maintains communication with Production, Quality & Maintenance Departments to address manufacturing concerns.
  1. Develops & maintains relations with external vendors that support production.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

        A. Requires a 2-year Associates Degree in Manufacturing from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience.

        B. Should have a strong background in mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and CNC programming. Requires an understanding of the mechanics of the cutting processes with our tools             and processing of our tools.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  1. Ability to read, analyze and interpret many forms of business documents including financial reports and technical manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

        A. Algebra and Geometry skills are essential in addition to basic math skills.

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. Requires analytical thought process to design and improve processes. Requires good understanding of cutting tool design, and what is critical to end-user.
  2. Complexity level is high due to technical nature of the tasks involved.
  3. Mistakes made in specifications of new processes can be serious due to large capital expenditures required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to use computers and keyboards frequently and to occasionally use stereoscopes, tool scopes, and inspection equipment.
  1. Regularly works with confidential data of medium to high importance which if disclosed may be detrimental to the company’s interests.
